Oily Stains - Emergency

A grease stain is easier to manage while it has not yet been absorbed into the fibers of the textile. It is important to remember that instead of the desired result, in the first minutes after pollution, the situation is easy to aggravate if you start overwriting the stain with napkins or a towel. This will only increase the spot itself.

Grease the surface of a fresh stain carefully. Blot the contaminated area with a paper towel or piece of toilet paper. If a greasy stain appears on the clothing, then it must be removed, put on a horizontal surface, placing a paper towel under the stain. The furniture stain should be covered with a napkin over the contaminated area.

Dry way

After removing excess fat, the stain should be covered with one of the agents that actively absorb fat, which has already managed to penetrate the fiber structure. In this capacity can be used:

  • salt;
  • talcum powder or baby powder;
  • powdered chalk.

When choosing between these products, it is important to remember that it is better to absorb a greasy stain on clothing or upholstery in bright colors with chalk. Powder and talcum powder are more suitable for white and delicate fabrics, for example, for white silk. In turn, salt due to the additional corroding properties is best kept away from brightly colored fabrics and used mainly on dark textiles.

For each of these products, the cleansing technique is the same. It is necessary to thickly apply the product, stepping a little beyond the contours of the stain and leave for an hour. After that, the powder is scraped off with a spoon and washed in the usual way.

Wet Processing Methods

To remove a greasy stain at home allows a solution of ordinary laundry soap. If the contaminated area is extensive, it is better to rub a bar of soap into the chips and, pouring warm water, rub it with an old toothbrush.

In other cases, grease stains are ideally cleaned with dishwashing detergents. As a rule, manufacturers of dishwashing liquids use active substances that break down fat. If the product is too bright, then before applying to textiles it is better to dilute it in water.

In addition, a regular mustard powder will help remove a greasy stain. To do this, a teaspoon of powder is mixed with two teaspoons of warm water. The resulting slurry is applied to the stain and remains for half an hour, after which it is washed off with plenty of water.
