Every year, streets in many cities are sprinkled with technical salt. And although the roads after that become less slippery, this method also has negative sides. Salt remains white stains on boots and it can be extremely difficult to wash it.

It is much easier to prevent a problem than to solve it. Get a special tool that prevents salt from settling on your favorite shoes, grease your boots before going out with greasy cream, petroleum jelly. It is possible that insignificant salt stains will remain after the walk, but there will be much less of them in comparison with untreated boots. Many large footwear companies also sell salt protection cream, which is best suited specifically for their brand.

Arriving from the street, wash your shoes with warm (but not hot) water. Then wrap the stained area with napkins or toilet paper and let the boots dry. As soon as the shoes begin to dry, salt will appear on it, which is absorbed into the napkin. After the boots are completely dry, the shoes should be lubricated with baby cream.

Make a strong solution of vinegar (three parts vinegar to one part water) and thoroughly wipe the white spots of salt with the resulting solution. The pollution will disappear.

Another popular way to deal with salt stains is castor oil. When you get home, rinse your boots thoroughly. After they have dried, spread them with castor oil. If the white streaks do not disappear, repeat the procedure several times.

Removing salt stains from suede shoes is much more difficult than with leather. Place a pot of water on the stove and, after boiling, hold the boots over steam. After that, suede should be combed with a dry brush.

A solution of ammonia will also help suede boots. Wipe them with contaminated places and then sprinkle them with semolina. Semolina absorbs salt and your shoes will be clean again.

Many companies that manufacture cosmetics for shoes produce products that help remove white stains from salt. They exist for both leather and suede shoes. If you do not want to bother with folk methods, just purchase a bottle of a special tool.
