Before you start sewing, you need to determine the size. For example, for a sheet, it is necessary to add an additional 10 cm to each side to the size of the mattress in order to gently fill the bed. 2-3 cm should be added to the size of the pillow, and 3-4 to the size of the blanket. Also consider seams and hem when sewing.
Ideal for bedding are fabrics made from natural materials. The cheapest option is cotton, and if funds allow, it is better to opt for flax. When buying fabrics from cotton and linen, it must be borne in mind that they will shrink up to 10% during the first wash. The most expensive material is silk. Sewing from it is difficult, so if you are not sure of your experience and skill, it is better to refuse silk. The dyes used for fabrics should be of high quality - you should definitely pay attention to this, since bed linens will often have to be washed. It will be a shame if it starts to fade after a couple of washes.
When combining fabrics, you need to pay attention to the fact that the shared thread should go in the same direction at pieces of fabric from different materials. In general, it is better to use one type of material so that after washing there is no deformation of the finished product. The same applies to braid or any other decor. If you still want to assemble different fabrics and avoid shrinkage or stretching, you can buy fabric with a margin and wash small pieces from each material to see how they will behave in the future.
Starting directly to sewing, you need to check the tension of the threads in the machine: a tight thread will tighten the seams, from a weak thread the seam can fall apart. If everything is in order with the threads, you can start sewing linen, not forgetting that open sections of all seams need to be processed with an overlock or zigzag.
