Many summer residents experience inconvenience when storing easily perishable products - meat, dairy, fish. Due to the lack of electricity in the house, and sometimes the house itself (at the initial stage of construction), it is not possible to use a household refrigerator. In this case, you can use home-made, rather simple to manufacture refrigeration devices.
Underground refrigerator
A refrigerator underground is good in that it maintains a temperature sufficient to preserve food during all seasons - from a weak minus in winter to + 10-15 in summer.
How to make it? In the shaded place of the site (on the north side of the barn or behind the bushes), they dig a hole of such depth that a plastic barrel fits there. The depth and width of the pit is made larger in diameter and height by 15-20 cm for adding sand cushion. Otherwise, the barrel will bulge out of the ground in the spring.
Sand at the bottom is spilled with water and compacted, a barrel is inserted and the gaps between the walls are gradually filled up, constantly tamping and moistening the sand cushion. The neck of the barrel should rise slightly.
The primitive refrigerator is almost ready. They carefully fit the lid so that moisture does not leak inside and especially insects do not crawl.
So that the barrel does not heat up from the sun or, on the contrary, does not freeze in winter, a “pillow” made of thick white polyethylene stuffed with sawdust is thrown onto the lid. It is very practical to use fabric from the old banner for these purposes.
To conveniently deliver food, they are placed in bags with long ribbons attached to the neck of the tank and, if necessary, they are lifted and lowered inside the container.
A positive point will be the safety of your products in the absence of owners in the country, since thieves are unlikely to look for food sources and alcoholic beverages outside the home.
