When changing the oil, the question often arises: whether to flush or not. Definitely, flushing is necessary if you bought a car by hand and don’t know what oil is poured into it; if you switch, for example, from mineral oil to synthetic.

You will need

  • - new engine oil

  • - flushing oil

  • - a key for unscrewing the drain plug

  • - new oil filter

  • - oil filter puller

  • - preferably a pit or lift

Instruction manual

1

We change the oil on an idle engine, it is better immediately after the trip, until the oil has cooled down. Hot oil is more liquid, so it will leak faster and in large quantities than cold.

2

We unscrew the oil filler cap. We loosen the fastening of the drain plug with a wrench, then we substitute the container for collecting used oil (at least 5 liters). Having turned off the plug completely, we begin to drain the oil.

3

Drain the oil for at least 10 minutes. Wipe the drain plug and screw it back. We remove oil leaks from the crankcase.

4

Fill the flushing oil through the oil filler neck. We twist the lid of the oil filler neck. We turn on the engine and let the machine idle for 10-15 minutes. Then we turn off the engine, unscrew the oil filler neck and drain plug, first substituting a container under it, and drain the flushing oil (also for at least 10 minutes). We twist the drain plug.

5

We substitute the container under the oil filter. Remove the oil filter. We clean the filter seat from dirt and oil drips. Apply fresh engine oil to the O-ring of the new oil filter and twist it.

6

Through the oil filler neck, pour in engine oil about 85-90% of the required amount (usually from 3 to 3.5 liters). We wrap the oil filler cap and start the engine for 1-2 minutes. We make sure that on the instrument panel the signaling device for insufficient oil pressure goes out and there are no leaks from under the plug and filter.

7

Turn off the engine, after a few minutes (it is necessary so that the oil glass in the pan), check the oil level with a dipstick. If necessary, add oil.

Useful advice

Be careful during operation - the used oil is hot.
