Due to the special structure of the roots, raspberries have an unpleasant feature - to spread throughout the garden. If measures are not taken in time, young raspberry shoots can fill the site in a matter of months.
For many gardeners, raspberries are a real "scourge" on the site. Every autumn they come to grips with him, and every spring the bush grows again, even more than before. There are several proven and effective ways to fence raspberries.
Pruning
First of all, it is regularly recommended to trim the shrub. Raspberry pruning is a procedure that helps make the growth not so total. Raspberries are pruned simply. This is due to the peculiarity of the plant to form a crop on two-year-old shoots, which die after fruiting. Then they need to be cut near the ground (even taking a little deeper). Together with them, excess, dried, weak, damaged branches are removed. Cutting is recommended in autumn.
All young growths that appear around maternal bushes must be ruthlessly removed from the root or cut as deep as possible.
If the raspberry is old and neglected, this will not be enough. This procedure can even trigger the growth of new shoots. It may take a couple of years to tidy up the old raspberry, during which persistent young animals will have to be dug up.
Root barrier
To limit the growth of raspberries in the area or to protect neighbors from it, experienced gardeners use the following method. Along a row of raspberries, dig a narrow deep ditch and insert slate, plastic, metal or roofing material into it. The groove should be deep - at least 70 cm.
