Kadki is made of different wood. The choice of material depends on the use of further manufactured containers. For example, it is best to take a linden tub for storing honey. In order to pickle, soak or ferment something, it is necessary to use barrels of oak planks.

You will need

  • - oak;

  • - instruments;

  • - hot rolled steel tape.

Instruction manual

1

To make rivets, take the bottom of the oak trunk and saw off chocks 5-6 cm longer than the height of the future container. Chop it in half radially. Then, putting the ax every time with the tip to the center of the log, prick rivets with a thickness of 2.5-3 cm and a width of 8-10 cm. For the bottom, prepare 15 cm long blanks in the same way. Fold everything in a room with good ventilation for a month for natural drying.

2

Make a template, calculating its dimensions mathematically according to the angle of inclination of the tub wall. The taper is usually 1.7-1.8. This number indicates the ratio of the size of the bottom to the top of the product. Also, as a template, you can use the tablet from the old coil.

3

Treat the dried workpieces with a planer from the outside and a jointer at the ends, referring to the template and maintaining the necessary dimensions and taper. The rivets thus obtained should be slightly wider at the bottom.

4

Make hoops of steel tape 3-5 cm wide, calculating the circumference of the tub in three places. You will need three hoops: two "morning" (extreme) and one "onion" (central). Fasten the ends of the tape with lap rivets made of soft wire. One edge of the tape needs to be slightly flared.

5

Assembly is the most difficult operation. But if all the calculations and preparatory work are done correctly, it will not take much time. Take the largest "morning" hoop and, holding it by weight, fasten with clothespins two "legs"-rivets on opposite sides with narrow ends. Add the rest of the blanks to them. If the last riveting did not fit the remaining size, reduce it or take a larger workpiece.

6

Gently tapping with a hammer, evenly lower the hoop to the middle. Put a second onion hoop on the tub and continue lowering the lower one, not finishing 5-6 cm to the end. Put the middle one in its rightful place, then hoist the last small hoop.

7

Knock down the bottom of the tub from cooked boards with staples and cut a circle out of it. Turn the tub over and cut a small 3 mm groove from the inside for the bottom. Set the bottom and flip the tub over again. Replace the lower hoop, finally securing the structure. Using the humpback planer, level the height of the tub.

Useful advice

You can pre-worry about the convenience of moving by making two rivets on opposite sides 6-8 cm longer and drilling holes for the rope in them. Thus, you get a removable rope handle for the tub.
