To understand which house is warmer: brick or wooden, you need to know the features of each of these building materials. Of great importance in making decisions are the features of the operation of the home and the climatic conditions of the region.

Choosing the material for the construction of his house, the builder thinks about which one will provide the most comfortable living. The heat-insulating properties of brick and wood are considered primarily, since these materials are the most popular in low-rise construction.

What are the benefits of wood?

It is believed that wooden houses are the warmest. There is some truth in this, but do not forget that these buildings are constantly changing their shape: they dry up, settle, crack. Therefore, without proper care, which consists in regularly inspecting the walls for cracks and gaps, such a house will not retain heat well. Brick walls are much more durable, but to maintain the optimum temperature, their thickness should be very solid.

So, laying in 2 bricks (wall width 53 cm) in terms of thermal conductivity corresponds to a wooden beam with a cross section of 15/20 cm. It is not difficult to guess which of these walls will be cheaper. Therefore, wood is undoubtedly more profitable material for building a private house. But in regions with a warm climate, where to keep cool in the summer and warm in the winter, a 5 cm layer of insulation is enough, there is no fundamental difference from which to build a house. In these conditions, both brick and wood will work equally well.

If a material of rather poor quality was used in the masonry of a brick wall, it will certainly be hygroscopic. Any brick absorbs moisture, but low-quality has a more loose structure, so it absorbs it from the air in a significant amount. The developer should understand that wet porous stone cannot retain heat. Therefore, a house made of such material will be cold. When purchasing a brick, you must make sure of its high quality. Otherwise, the cost of insulation and heating of the home will be very significant.

A wooden house is much less cured than a brick one. If a stone building is not heated for some time, then it will take a long time to warm it up. Therefore, it is desirable to heat brick houses in automatic mode. With wood, the situation is much simpler: the cold will warm up in a few hours.
