There are several types of thread, so for each of these works you will need your own tool designed for this purpose. But there is one that all carvers use, regardless of what material they work with.
Over time, each lover of carving develops his own selection of tools, but it always has the most necessary equipment for this work. There are several types of carvings: wood, stone and bone. The optimal kit for each of them varies, but there are general details.
What is used for wood carving?
The main tool is cutting. The Vologda knife is considered the best, with which you can perform carving of sculptures. It will take a jamb knife and a knife cutter. These devices differ in the shape of the blade. In the first, it is sharpened at an angle of 20%, and the angle of the bevel is dense is 35 *, 45 *, 60 *. Scope - relief, openwork, flat-relief carving. The second knife is auxiliary to the first and has a curly blade, most of which is semicircular.
It will take several chisels with different shapes of canvas: straight, rounded and with a curved blade. The latter are called "clusars." Among them there is a chisel-corner, a chisel-flat, a nail and a semicircular. Each of the listed tools must be present in the cutter kit. He will also need a shtikhel with a bend angle of 15 *, which is used to select wood veins.
Another necessary tool is rivets. Like all other cutting tools, they have a wooden handle and a metal blade, which in this case can be of different sizes, but there are only three forms of sharpening: a sword, a leaf and a nail. It is impossible to do without editing and sharpening a tool, for which medium-power grinding machines are used.
What is needed for stone work?
Here, the main tool are cutters. All work can be attributed to two categories: chiselling and grinding. I use a file to cut off soft rocks, and an automatic cutting tool for hard ones. The most effective is the one that is equipped with a diamond blade.
Each professional has a stationary machine on which carving and stone processing are performed. But there is always a need for manual processes, so there must be a hammer, chisels with a strong straight blade and files. To perform engraving, use scrapbooks (faceted steel rods), scrippers (scrapbook with a victorious tip) or an electric engraving tool in the form of a pencil.
