Instruction manual

1

Start by dismantling the old coating. The underlying layers will open - their condition should be examined and based on this, decide on further actions. If linoleum is laid on a floor slab or concrete screed, remove all contaminants from the freed base, such as mastic, debris, loose particles or adhesives.

2

Pay particular attention to the preparation of the foundation. It is necessary to form a smooth uniform surface without damage, cracks, without the remnants of the old coating. There should not be small potholes, ledges, height differences should not be more than 2 mm per meter of floor. You can form a screed or make a self-leveling bulk floor. Joints of plates, cracks and crevices should be repaired with putty mixed with cement mortar and varnish, epoxy resin.

3

Lay the linoleum on the floor and let it level out. It will take about a day, it is better to wait a couple of days. The better linoleum is leveled independently, the denser it will lie on the base. If you try to speed up its alignment in any artificial way, this will lead to swelling of linoleum, deformation of the coating during operation.

4

Lay the expanded material on the floor. There is no need to glue linoleum if it is stacked in one piece over the entire room. It will be quite enough if you press it with skirting boards around the perimeter, and use special sills for the doorway. If you have to combine several strips on the floor, then for better fixing linoleum, you can use special glue.

5

Install the sills and skirting boards on the laid linoleum. Plinths fasten around the perimeter of the room with reference to the walls. Screw the lugs along the edges of the material, you need to use self-tapping screws, dowels as fasteners.

note

For laying simple linoleum, a bare concrete surface is not the best option. This floor turns out pretty cold. This disadvantage can be corrected - for this it is necessary to purchase material with a heat-insulating substrate or separately buy a roll insulation.

Some owners prefer to first lay sheets of chipboard or plywood, and then lay linoleum on top. But as a way to level the floor, this operation cannot be used - the sheet material will be deformed in uneven places, and this will ruin the linoleum.

Useful advice

Place the new linoleum in the room where it is planned to be laid. The roll leaning against the wall should remain there for several hours. This must be done - so that the temperature of the material is equal to room temperature. Sometimes linoleum can change size. For this reason, it is recommended to purchase it with a small margin.
