Viburnum is a tall, frost-resistant shrub, the height of its shoots can be up to 3 meters. Now, with few summer residents, you can find this plant on the site. But those who want to plant viburnum at their dacha can do this at any time of the year, with the possible exception of the winter period. And if there is a desire to propagate this shrub, this can be done in several ways. Guelder-rose can be propagated by seeds, cuttings or layering.

Propagation by layering

Breeding by layering is the most common and simple. For this, strong young shoots are selected, bent to the ground. The shoot is laid in a pre-made groove, pinned and sprinkled with soil, which is well compacted so that there are no voids. So the escape will take root better. To provoke a more rapid appearance of the roots, often cuts are made on the shoot bark or the bark is removed with a ring in the place where the shoot is in contact with the soil. Strongly tilting the shoot is not worth it, as it can break. From the groove above the ground, leave the top of the shoot about 10 cm long. Rooted shoots are carefully dug up and transplanted to a permanent place.

Propagation by cuttings

Cuttings for the propagation of viburnum can be used both green and lignified. In the second method, cuttings are harvested in the fall, when the leaves have fallen, or early in the spring, before the sap flow begins. Prepared in the fall, cuttings are stored under snow before planting. You can leave them in wet sand in a cold room. The best rooting of cuttings occurs, taken from the middle part of the shoots.

Green cuttings propagation is carried out with sufficient humidity. Cuttings are harvested early in the morning, after which they are placed in water. Next, the upper cut is made straight, and the bottom is at an angle of 45 degrees. At least 2–3 internodes are left on any handle. The lower leaves are recommended to be removed, and the upper ones are cut in half. In this way, evaporation of moisture can be reduced. For faster rooting, cuttings can be treated with a root stimulant.

After planting, it is advisable to cover the stem with a jar to create a suitable microclimate inside.
