If you are the owner of a country house, you will probably want to have a beautiful log arbor in the yard. It can be done independently with the necessary tools.

The construction of the foundation for a log arbor

Homemade log arbor is a capital structure. And this means that it will require the construction of a foundation. Depending on the type of arbor and the type of soil, a strip or column foundation can be laid.

To install the strip foundation, you first need to dig a trench along the perimeter of the future gazebo. Its depth should be below the level of freezing of the soil, and the width should be at least 30 cm. Then the trench is filled with crushed stone, sand, wall blocks and poured with concrete. After the concrete has hardened, a waterproofing layer is laid on the foundation.

A summer gazebo on standard soil can be installed on a columnar foundation. To do this, dig holes under the posts in the places of the alleged corners of the gazebo. Pits must be filled with brick, wall blocks and filled with concrete. Waterproofing is laid on top of the posts.

Log house assembly: milestones

Before you begin to work, you should decide on the method of angular joints of logs. There is a “without remainder” cut and a “with remainder” cut. The first method allows you to get perfectly even angles, and in the second the ends of the logs protrude beyond the plane of the walls. If you want to save wood, it is better to cut "without residue".

To start, the logs should be marked from the ends. It is better to start marking with a log with the smallest diameter in the upper part of the log house. Then the logs need to be trimmed. To do this, you need to make 4 edges. In this case, one edging will pass through the entire length of the workpiece.

Then you can proceed to insert the logs. One side should be equal to 6/8 of the thickness of the square, and the other - 4/8 of the thickness. To facilitate the process, you can divide the sides of the square into eight identical parts. Grooves are made on all logs.

The next step will be the control installation of the log house on a separate site. After preliminary shrinkage, the construction of the building on the foundation is allowed. The main thing is to observe the sequence of logs. To strengthen the elements of the building, it is recommended to use special spikes.
