Determine the type of fabric that you have to process. The composition is usually indicated on the internal label. It also indicates at what temperature the item should be ironed. If you see a pictograph with a crossed out iron, keep in mind that this dress cannot be ironed.

Put the item on the ironing board. Unfasten the buttons, straighten the pockets, remove the belt from the belt loops. Turn the dress inside out - most fabrics are best handled that way.
Wool can be processed on the front side, but be sure to use gauze pre-soaked in water and well wrung out. The hardest thing to iron is natural linen. However, it does not require perfect ironing - a linen dress may look slightly wrinkled, this emphasizes the naturalness of the fabric.

Turn on the iron by selecting the correct temperature. For flax and cotton, maximum power is required (number 3 on the iron scale). Wool and viscose are ironed at medium temperature (2), and silk and polyester will require the most delicate treatment with a warm iron (indicated on the scale by a unit).
If your dress is sewn from combined materials - for example, has lace trim or a silk collar, parts made from different materials will have to be processed with an iron set to different temperatures.

Start ironing from the top of the dress. Trim the collar and shoulder area. Then iron the sleeves. Do not smooth over sharp folds on them. Fold the sleeve on the board and iron it, not bringing the surface to the middle part with a fold. Then slightly shift the fabric and iron the middle of the sleeve. Unfasten the cuff and extend it to its full width. Iron it, trying not to crush the corners.

Process the shelves of the dress. If there is a fastener on them, carefully go around the buttons with an iron. Do not press a hot surface against them - buttons or buttons may become deformed. Finish the top of the dress by ironing the back.

Now take care of the skirt. Iron it gradually, starting from the belt and ending with the hem. Lastly, iron frills and ruffles. If there is a lace trim on them, go around it - a hot iron can burn lace. After you finish processing the main fabric, switch the iron to a lower temperature and iron the finish.

Having finished processing the thing, hang it on your shoulders and leave it for half an hour. Do not wear the dress immediately after ironing - it will be washed immediately.
