Sealing threaded joints in pipelines is a necessary procedure. With the help of what materials to do this - you choose, as they are now in sufficient quantities.

In everyday life, it may be necessary to seal the threaded joints. This is mainly required for plumbing and heating systems. Previously, all specialists used sanitary flax and paint for these purposes.

Flax fiber application

It is applied today. Now it is impregnated with special pastes, the composition of which is selected to protect the thread from corrosion and reduce the hygroscopicity of flax. This method creates easy conditions for assembly-disassembly of the connection. The disadvantages are that it is necessary to thoroughly clean the threads before connecting, as well as poor resistance to aggressive fluids (antifreezes of autonomous heating systems).

Using tape FUM (PTFE sealing material)

Now there are modern materials for sealing threaded joints. FUM tape has great chemical resistance. It is very convenient to use, but it cannot be used to seal threads of pipelines subject to vibration. Due to insufficient adhesion to the sealing surface and high antifriction properties during vibration, the seal is extruded from the threaded connection.

Sealing joints with synthetic fiber

Its use, due to the fact that it is impregnated with a special sealing compound, is the most suitable way. Such a thread can be wound on dirty and wet threads, used at low temperatures. The connection will be reliable, with good corrosion protection. The disadvantage of such a seal will be poor chemical resistance, high material consumption when sealing threaded joints of large diameter pipelines.
