Residents of apartment buildings often face an unpleasant phenomenon associated with the water supply system. The pipes through which water is supplied to the apartments sometimes begin to buzz. To eliminate this undesirable phenomenon, it is necessary to imagine what are the causes of such extraneous sounds.
Why do water pipes buzz
The proper operation of the water supply system is determined by the stability of the water pressure in the entire system. If sudden pressure changes occur, vibration of the pipe walls may occur. Upon reaching a certain level, such vibration is perceived by ear as a buzz. Pressure surges in the water supply can be periodic and short-term, but a prolonged buzz is also possible, which causes legal irritation for residents.
The source of harmful vibration can be located in a variety of places. Sometimes the cause is a poorly screwed or leaking tap, in other cases, a buzz occurs in the area of a poorly welded joint or in the place where the gap narrows inside the pipe. It also happens that an unpleasant sound is determined by the malfunctioning of the main valve of the water supply system. Usually it is located in the places of laying water utilities outside the residential area.
The matter is compounded by the fact that water has excellent sound conductivity, and therefore enhances the sound emanating from a metal pipe. It often happens that a buzz arising at one end of a house is heard by tenants whose apartments are located in its other part. In this case, the problem worries everyone, it becomes a common "trouble" and requires a quick fix.
