Orchid is an exotic plant native to the rainforests. This factor is decisive in the construction of the plant life cycle: a period of intensive growth is replaced by a dormant period. This freedom-loving beauty needs regular and reverent care. When purchasing an orchid, it is worth paying attention to the appearance of the stem and roots. Both that, and another should be fleshy, dense, have elastic glossy leaves.

Before you please the eye with a beautiful flower, you need to provide the plant with the necessary conditions and only then wait for reciprocal thanks. The first and most important condition for good orchid health is, of course, the soil. Since the plant is an epiphyte, in the natural environment it grows on tree trunks, then the house should bring its growth conditions closer to natural. A substrate of pine bark is ideal for this. It can be purchased at a flower shop, coconut tree bark, sand, polystyrene and other fillers will already be added here. Professional flower growers prefer to cook the substrate on their own from dry pine bark, after soaking it in boiling water.

It is optimal to transplant the plant once every 2-3 years. When the orchid needs new soil, it itself will “tell you” about this with pale and yellowed leaves, dry roots.

Humid air and timely watering is very important for orchids. However, both drying out and excessive moisture are equally scary. It is worth watering as the substrate dries, avoiding stagnation of water. Every second watering should be accompanied by top dressing. Here, any fertilizers for indoor plants will be appropriate, but the concentration should be reduced ten times because of the frequency.

This beauty loves to soak up the sun, so it is worth giving her the lightest window sill in the house. Do not once again turn the plant to the sunny side. It itself adjusts to the light with its whole body. An extra turn will require a lot of effort on the plant to adapt. A flower needs fresh air, but a draft is very dangerous.

A healthy, well-groomed plant will thank the caring owner with lovely flowers. White, pink, purple, variegated flowers will adorn the windowsill for a long time - sometimes 2-3 months.

After flowering, do not rush to prune the shoot. Often, flowers appear 2-3 times on one shoot. When the shoot begins to dry out, it should be cut off and the plant should be allowed to rest.
