Sticker wallpaper - a matter requiring attention to detail. Even beautiful, high-quality and expensive wallpapers will eventually wrinkle, bubble or move away from the walls if you glued them under a draft, with high humidity, did not prepare the wall, or simply chose the wrong adhesive.
The entire assortment of wallpaper glue, presented in stores, can be divided into two groups: universal compounds and specialized adhesives designed for certain types of wallpaper.
Glue for paper wallpaper
This glue is intended for all types of paper wallpaper (single-layer, structural, duplex, foam, and foam wallpaper). The composition of dry mixtures includes modified starch, as well as antifungal additives. In fact, such compositions are a starch paste well known to the older generation, which has been used for wallpapering for many decades. The only difference is the availability of antifungal additives and ease of preparation: it is enough to pour the dry mixture in a thin stream into cool water, mixing continuously, and wait a few minutes.
Also in stores you can find ready-to-use paste for paper wallpaper. In composition, it is similar to dry mixes.
Adhesive for vinyl and non-woven wallpaper
The composition of this glue is similar to the glue for paper wallpaper, but it usually also includes methyl cellulose, which increases the viscosity of the composition: this is what allows you to work with heavy wallpaper. Sometimes antiseptic additives are included in the glue for vinyl - they help prevent decay, which is especially important in cases where it comes to finishing damp rooms with washable wallpaper.
For gluing moisture-proof wallpapers, you can use PVA construction glue, which also contains antiseptic additives and provides good adhesion to the surface.
Universal adhesive
The composition of universal glue, as a rule, is the same as that of glue for paper wallpaper, without reinforcing additives. Therefore, despite the assurances of manufacturers of its versatility, it is better not to use it for heavy vinyl, moisture-proof and non-woven wallpapers: specialized compositions will be more effective in such cases. For other types of wallpaper, it is quite suitable. Universal adhesives are designed for use in various concentrations (the proportions for different types of wallpaper are indicated on the packaging), the general principle is this: the heavier the wallpaper, the thicker the adhesive should be.
The composition of universal glue often includes indicator additives that give the composition a pink, purple or purple color, which allows you to control the uniformity of applying glue to the wallpaper. At the same time, the glue quickly fades in the light and becomes transparent. This facilitates the work, but if the wallpaper is very light and the glue is placed densely, stains may eventually appear at the joints.
