Upholstered furniture, which has been in operation for a long time, often loses its attractive appearance. But do not rush to throw out a sagging sofa or sofa with a faded upholstery: you can restore such furniture yourself, without resorting to the services of specialists.
Repair of an old sofa begins with an assessment of the state of its frame: usually the back and seat of the sofa are subject to the most wear, the side walls may be loose or damaged. The final stage of repair is the upholstery banner, as old fabric may be faded, worn, and have holes.
Frame repair
Both stages of the work will require dismantling of the furniture - partial or full - depending on the design features. When dismantling, it is advisable to record the sequence of actions so that when reassembling you do not forget where the installation points of the various elements are located.
The first step is to dismantle the armrests of the sofa and its back. In some designs, to remove the backrest, a preliminary dismantling of the transformation mechanism will be required. After that, unscrew all the available bolts and screws to disassemble the sofa into its component parts.
The crumbled sections of the frame are removed and replaced with new elements. You can make a “patch” for a frame either by yourself, by making accurate measurements and cutting it out of a chipboard sheet, or by contacting a large construction hypermarket that provides carpentry services according to customer’s designs. In some cases, damaged elements can simply be strengthened with a wood block or a piece of chipboard, fixing them on the frame with a nut and washer.
Repair of the spring block comes down to replacing the "sagging" springs: for this, the fixation of the damaged spiral is loosened and it is twisted out, like a screw. The spring is replaced with a new one, carefully fixed. If there are too many damaged springs, then it is advisable to change the entire unit.
The lateral parts of the sofa are checked for integrity, set wooden "patches" in the case of severely damaged elements, tighten all the bolts and screws loosened during operation.
