Not a single piece of furniture can last forever. In soft armchairs and sofas, foam rubber first becomes unusable, which deforms due to constant load, and if liquid gets inside from time to time, it can even rot. If all the other elements are still quite suitable for use, the foam can be replaced with a new one.

Instruction manual

1

Remove furniture upholstery to replace foam. This process will depend on the specific model and configuration of the product. If you have very little experience with such work or do not have it at all, try to photograph the product before starting work from different angles. While working, write down each of the operations - then you can simply perform them in the reverse order without worrying about the order. To separate the old upholstery from the frame, use an anti-stapler. Try not to damage it during removal.

2

Cut the foam with scissors according to the required dimensions. If it is possible to spread the material on a flat surface, it is better to use a clerical knife. Make foam plates for the seat, back, and other parts where you want to replace the filler.

3

Attach the material to the frame using a furniture stapler, in extreme cases, you can use nails. At the same time, consider all the trim, trim, decor elements that were originally on the furniture.

4

Lay a synthetic winterizer on top of the foam - so you can pull the upholstery better, and the foam will last longer. Furniture becomes more voluminous and softer. Pull upholstery gently - its tension should be maximum and uniform in all places. This will help the pattern not to warp over time, and the fabric can last longer.

5

Fasten the trim from the bottom of the frame. This is more convenient to do with a furniture stapler. It is better not to use nails - this is not so convenient, and the method of fastening itself, one might say, yesterday.

note

Choose only good quality foam rubber. Cheap material will quickly lose its original elastic properties and characteristics. Very quickly it sags, sticks together, overwrites, then turns into a mass like plasticine, and the furniture ceases to be upholstered. This is noticeable even on inexpensive sofas that are on display in the store - the furniture has not been in the hall for so long, but several dozen potential buyers have already squatted on it, so the filler crumpled, the sofa sank, and the upholstery sagged.

Useful advice

If you want the furniture to turn out with a slightly stiffer base, replace the foam layer with a sandwich construction. For example, it can be two sheets of foam rubber 30 mm thick and a layer of felt between them.

If the furniture is decorated with multiple folds, welts, has an original shape, it is better not to replace the foam yourself, but to invite the master to the house.
