Instruction manual

1

The stained-glass window represents a panel from multi-colored glass which can be both transparent, and opaque. All the necessary materials for its manufacture can be bought in specialized stores. You can do it yourself both a classic stained glass window and its imitation. Basic techniques: tiffany and fusing (glass sintering).

How to make a stained glass window in the style of "tiffany"?

Production of panels begins with a choice of pattern. Its size should coincide with the size of the future stained glass window. All lines of the image must be clearly drawn with a simple pencil or felt-tip pen. On each detail of the picture should be written from which glass it should be cut. That is, indicate its color. The paper with the image of the future stained-glass window is laid on a flat hard surface, having previously laid a soft cloth on it. This will not allow the glass to crack during the manufacture of panel parts from it.

3

Focusing on the drawn contour, the necessary part is cut out with the help of a glass cutter. If its edges are uneven, the excess glass is removed with tweezers, which can be replaced with small pliers. Next, proceed to grind the edges. For this purpose, there are special machines, but for the independent manufacture of a small stained-glass window, you can do with an ordinary tile cutter. An emery circle of medium grain should be installed on it. It is important that this tool is equipped with a water bath. This will allow you to flush small glass fragments from it when you rotate the circle.

4

After turning, each part must be wrapped along its edge with foil tape. This edging should fit snugly to the surface of the glass, so the foil is carefully smoothed with an even wooden stick or the side surface of the pencil. After that, the finished stained glass elements are laid out on the drawing. It remains to solder together all the pieces of glass. The strength of the connection provides foil tape. The finished stained glass window is covered with a patina.

How to make a simulated stained glass window?

Such a panel can be made in two ways: by filling and painting. The latter is not particularly difficult, as it is done using special stained-glass paints using the drawing technique. For a stained-glass window, two things will be required: a paste for drawing a contour and filling (paint or colored varnish). Such a panel is made quite simply: a drawing is prepared, an ordinary transparent glass cloth of the required size is laid on it, then with the help of a special paste the outline of the image is drawn. Once this mass has hardened, they begin to fill the internal areas of the drawing with paints or varnishes of the corresponding color.
