A polished surface pleases the eye only when it is perfectly flat, smooth and clean. But no matter how carefully the furniture is used, sooner or later, treacherous scratches may appear on it.
Remove scratches so that there is no trace left, alas, will not succeed, but masking is quite possible.
Apply a shoe polish of a suitable color to the scratch and leave for about half an hour. After excess cream, remove and polish the surface with a dry, soft cloth, preferably wool.
- You can mask a scratch on a dark polish by applying iodine tincture to it. You will have to do this several times. True, over time, iodine evaporates, and the procedure will have to be repeated again and again as the defect “manifests”.
You can also use walnut kernels to fix defects on dark furniture. They include oil, which tones well scuffs and small scratches. Rub the whitened area several times with a walnut kernel, and then remove excess oil with a dry, clean cloth.
Colored wax pencils will also provide all possible assistance in masking scratches: melt the stylus of a suitable color and apply to the damaged area, and when it cools, remove the excess and carefully polish it.
