Thermos is a special vessel that perfectly keeps its contents in heat or cold. Thermoses are irreplaceable in campaigns, on picnics, long trips. They are sold in sporting goods stores or kitchen utensils, but making the right choice is more difficult, because a poor-quality thermos is useless, it will not properly maintain the temperature, and may be leaky and short-lived. It is also important to consider your goals, as there are different types of thermoses for various needs.
Thermos Types
There are various types of thermoses, and before you make a choice, you need to determine your needs. Think about the situations in which you will need to use a thermos. For use on trips or hikes, compact, light and mobile vessels are needed - this type is called a "bullet". These are small metal bottles with a rather large lid, which can be used as a glass, with a case for easy transportation and a special valve for convenient dispensing of drinks and longer temperature maintenance. You can pour soup or other liquid products into the “bullet”, but in this case you need to open the lid completely, and not use the valve so as not to clog it.
It is convenient to carry such compact thermoses with you for work or study, so that every day you will have lunch with home-made hot soup.
If you are going to use a thermos only at home, for example, for brewing infusions of herbs or preserving hot water for a long time, it is better to buy a table type with pump lids. Only liquids can be stored in such vessels; drinks are easy to pour out of them - you just need to press a button. Desktop thermoses are large and inconvenient for transportation, but they keep the temperature longer than other types.
Universal thermoses are suitable for any purpose: their size allows you to use them both at home and on a trip, and a wide throat makes it possible to store not only drinks, but also other products. Universal models are equipped with a double stopper that tightly closes the thermos.
There are also so-called ship types: such models consist of several containers that are folded into one vessel and allow you to store several products at once.
When choosing a thermos, pay attention to the cork. Cork wood plugs have low thermal conductivity, but poorly seal the vessel. It is better to choose a screw cap or check valve cover.
