Sometimes a lot of different trash accumulates at home. This trash can be thrown away, but you can make very useful gizmos from it, for example, scales. The kitchen is often required for a complicated recipe to measure out a small amount of ingredients. If you are engaged in chemical experiments, then you can’t do without the exact weight of the substance.

Scales are equal, shoulder, lever, and electronic. In order to make the first three types of scales, what you will find at home is quite suitable: a clothes hanger, a ruler, a needle from a broken umbrella, used covers and much more, which in principle will not be useful to you. But the device of electronic scales is quite complicated. In order to make electronic scales, you may need load cells, inductors, transformers, and similar devices, which certainly do not wallow in the form of junk.

Equal shoulder scales

An equal-arm scale in its appearance resembles a swing. So to make them you need a straight shoulder strap. The role of this bar can be performed by a regular ruler, a spoke from an umbrella and any other straight stick.

At the edges of the plank you need to attach the bowl. For these purposes, you can use any two identical containers. It can be corks from drinks, metal lids for canning, measuring cups, etc. At the edges of these containers, three holes should be made equally spaced from each other and attached to them are threads, fishing line, and thin wire.

In the center of the strip, one more rail should be glued (or welded) perpendicularly, only shorter. This arrow will show the balancing of the shoulders of the scales. For these purposes, you can even use a needle. Your scales are ready, it remains only to fix them on a stand, for example, hang them on a hook on a vertically mounted rail.

Shoulder scales

Shoulder scales are good because they allow you to measure not only the absolute weight, but also measure the required amount, for example, bulk composition. The main difference between such scales and equal arms is that the cups can be moved along the rail and installed at different points relative to the suspension.

As a bar for such scales, it is best to take a thin rack. You can also hang it on a hook. If the rail is very thin, then it is better to make a groove in the middle of it, rather than a hole. In the same place, make a needle-arrow, which will indicate the deviation of the balance.

Measure equal distances from the suspension point in both directions, numbering them as you move away. In the places of marks, notches can be made so that the scales do not slide on the bar during weighing. Bowls are made in the same way as with equal-arm scales, only they are not attached to the edges of the bar, but are suspended. When weighing, inverse proportionality is used: L1 / L2 = M2 / M1.

Lever scale

The lever scale is also simple to execute. In order to make them, you will need some kind of platform, tripod. Lever and cup for a small weight. A lever is attached to the tripod with screws, on one side of which a weighing cup is attached. The other side of the lever is the arrow of the balance. Empirically, you establish the division of weight.
