It is believed that coffee turns out to be the most aromatic if the grains are ground immediately before the preparation of the drink. In earlier times, coffee was ground using a hand mill, which was a small wooden box where grains were poured, as well as a simple mechanism for grinding the original product. If you have the necessary skills to work with the tool, you will be able to make a home-made coffee grinder.

Find a suitable motor for your used motor. A small motor with a power of 300-800 watts is suitable. Disassemble the unit by separating the rotor from the stator. Leave the stator unchanged for now.

On a drilling machine, make holes in the rotor body with a diameter of 8-10 mm and a depth of 6-7 mm. The distance between them should be equal to 10-15 mm. Position the individual holes along the rotor axis in oblique lines, from top to bottom.

Connect the drilled holes with gutters with a width of at least 5 mm and a depth of 3-4 mm. Run the grooves with an angle grinder, after securing the rotor in a bench vise. In the lower part of the rotor, where the ground product will subsequently come out, form the grooves as carefully and carefully as possible, making their depth a little less.

Using the emery wheel, remove the chamfer from the top of the rotor with a height of about 15 mm and a depth of 7-8 mm.

Insert the rotor into the motor stator. Using the drill or chisel, make holes in the bottom and top covers of the stator to fill the coffee beans and exit the ground coffee.

From a sheet of metal, make a loading hopper, the dimensions of which will be determined by the dimensions of the electric motor. Fasten the hopper to the top of the coffee grinder.

On the shaft of the engine, which has almost become a manual mill, push the handle to give the rotor a rotational movement. The design of the handle may be arbitrary. Fasten the handle to the rotor using a pin or bolt.

Screw the assembled structure to the board, in which previously make a hole for the exit of ground coffee. Now the board can be placed between two chairs or stools. Under the coffee grinder, place a bucket turned upside down, and on it a small container into which the finished product will fall.

Try the grinder at work to find the optimal grinding mode. It is recommended to grind grain, making 3-5 turns of the handle clockwise, and then 2-3 turns in the opposite direction. This helps prevent clogging of the grooves.
Useful advice
Try to clean the rotor regularly. Pour coffee beans into the hopper in small portions to avoid clogging of the coffee grinder's working body.
