If the old upholstery on the chairs looks unpresentable, and the frame remains solid, it’s cheaper to change the upholstery than to buy new furniture. Work on the strength of even a novice master and will not take much time.

If you need to change the casing of the chair yourself, start by unscrewing the seat. After unscrewing the screws, save them. They will come in handy later on in order to attach the repaired seat. When you remove the old upholstery from the chair, check the condition of the cushion. If the “pillow” is well preserved, only the fabric will have to be changed.

Use a screwdriver and pliers to remove all major parts. Measure the length, width and depth of the seat. If the seat is rounded, measure it in the widest places. Please note that the tissue will need about one and a half more than the obtained sizes. For example, with a seat size of 30x25x5 cm, you need to buy a canvas measuring 45x40 cm.

Place the fabric with the wrong side up on a flat surface. Place the seat on the fabric with the top down. Determine how the upholstery pattern should be placed, in which direction to make the pattern. Cut the fabric so that it is enough to cover the corners of the chair. Tentatively, you will need to add at least 2-3 sizes of its thickness to each side of the pattern to the dimensions of the seat.

Lay the fabric over the seat on the right side and secure it with braces starting at the center. Pull the fabric to the opposite side, trying to avoid wrinkles and creases. Fasten the edge of the fabric on the inside with staples, after tucking it inward. When attaching the fabric along the contour of the seat, smooth the corners by diagonally folding the corner of the fabric towards the center of the seat. Thus, fold up all the corners. Remember to constantly stretch the fabric.

After installing the brackets, check their reliability. If the staples sit loose, knock them out with a hammer. The next step is how to change the upholstery of the chair, glue the fabric on the back of the seat with PVC glue. During the night, the stool should dry. Use a well-ventilated area for this. After that, it remains only to put the seat on a chair and fasten with previously removed screws. New chair upholstery is ready!

If the chairs are designed for permanent use, buy a special upholstery fabric. If the chairs are part of the “front” furniture, use any elastic or light fabric you like for upholstery.
Useful advice
When the old seat cushion is completely unsuitable for further use, you need to replace it with a new one. Sometimes, instead of a pillow, unnecessary blankets are used to repair chairs.
