Gold is a noble metal, durable and not very susceptible to corrosion. However, from time to time, gold jewelry becomes dirty due to dust, sweat, grease, is mechanically damaged, and suffers from some active chemicals. Therefore, they must be properly looked after.
Gold jewelry cleaning
- From time to time, decorations need to be cleaned. It is best to use a soft-bristled toothbrush for cleaning.
- Most often, gold jewelry suffers from dirt, which occurs mainly in all sockets, at the place of soldering parts, under the stones. Mud usually consists of dust mixed with water, sebum, human sweat. Such pollution occurs constantly, therefore it is recommended to clean the products at least once every six months.
- Depending on the degree of contamination, you can use baking soda, washing powder, liquid dishwashing detergent to clean gold items. After using these products, rinse well with water and pat the products with a soft cloth.
- To give shine to faded gold jewelry (including those with precious stones), they are brushed with a toothbrush with toothpaste or toothpowder.
- Fairly darkened gold can be made light with onion juice by immersing the product in a glass with juice for 2 hours.
- The same effect will be if you lower the jewelry for 15 minutes in water with ammonia (5 drops per half a glass of water, or 0.5 teaspoon per glass) are enough. After the cleaning procedure, the jewelry is washed in running cold water and laid out on a soft cloth to dry.
- If the browning is slight, it is enough to wipe the product with a cotton swab dipped in onion juice or ammonia.
