Many gardeners have successfully practiced growing thuja seeds. This process is very lengthy due to the slow germination of seed. The first step in this matter is the acquisition or independent extraction of thuja seeds. In the latter case, you need to stock up on the cones of an adult plant. They need to be collected from September to December. With the beginning of winter, the cones open and the seeds of them spontaneously fall to the ground, so later in December it makes no sense to stock up on planting material.

Having found a suitable uterine plant, carefully cut off the buds, which can be light brown or brown, and spread them with a thin layer to dry in a place where the air temperature does not exceed 7 ° C. Seeds are taken out after the scales dry.

There are two ways to plant a thuja. The first is the immediate planting of seeds without any pre-treatment or soaking. If the seed has sufficient viability, thin sprouts will soon appear, resembling a stalk of young dill. The thuja will give the first branch in about six months, and until that time its growth will be very slow.

The second method of planting seeds involves their preliminary stratification. For this purpose, the grains are placed in a container filled with wet sand mixed with sawdust. After that, the container with planting material is closed and installed on the lower shelf of the refrigerator. Here it should be for 2-3 months. For home growing, thuja rarely use the second method of planting seeds, since there is no need for hardening.

The soil for planting is prepared as follows: first, drainage is laid at the bottom of the pot. Expanded clay, pebbles, coal or other small stones can be used. The thickness of the drainage layer should be 2-3 cm. It is best to buy soil in a store for gardeners. Preference should be given to soils for conifers. The prepared earth, slightly condensed, is poured into the pot so that at least 3 cm remains to its top. After that, river sand is spread on the ground with a thin layer. If there is no confidence in the quality of the soil, it can be poured with a disinfectant solution of potassium permanganate dark pink.

Thuja seeds are laid out in a checkerboard pattern at a distance of 1 cm from each other. Grains should not be immersed in the soil, rather tightly press them to the soil, which must be moist. After that, the pot must be closed with a transparent film or glass and put in a place where it will be provided with a temperature of at least 20 ° C.
