Replacing glass in the interior door is often required for a number of common reasons, due to which fragile material is cracked or broken. Draft, children's games, and negligence can lead to its damage. Sometimes it is necessary to replace glass with people who want to change the interior of their home. Today in the construction market you can choose this material for every taste - there is corrugated and smooth glass on sale, colored, frosted and transparent, with and without images.

Start the replacement work by dismantling the old glass. To do this, insert a chisel between the fold and the glazing bead and press lightly, then pull out the chisel and put the glazing bead back in place. So it will be easier for you to pull out the nails, the caps of which will stick out.

After that, prepare the glass for work by cleaning it from dust, moisture and various impurities. Wipe the glass on both sides with a rag and rinse it with a solution of baking soda. If this is not done, the depth of cut of the material will be insignificant, and when dismantled, the glass may not split along the notch line.

When opening glass, do not rush, think about whether extra trimming is useful to you. If this issue is approached irrationally, the remainder will have to be thrown out. Therefore, it is better to do this: draw the layout of the necessary elements on a sheet of paper and, according to it, make incisions on the glass.

Cut glass with a glass cutter, wooden rail or ruler. To do this, put the glass in a horizontal position and check the performance of your tool in an inconspicuous area of small size. A colorless thin strip should remain at this place. If the dash is white and rough, it is better to purchase another glass cutter.

With the ruler attached to the glass, hold the glass cutter exactly upright. Make an incision by sliding the roller along the ruler. At the same time, press it lightly. Draw each line only once. When the lines are drawn, lay the glass on the edge of the table with a notch line and press gently. If you did everything right, it will break.

When cutting, remember that the length and width of the glass should be less than the distance between the folds of the binding by 3/4 of the width of the fold. A clearance of at least 2 mm is necessary so that the glass can easily enter the binding during installation. It is also needed so that with a possible swelling of the binding wood, the brittle material does not burst.

Before you install glass in the binding of the interior door, you need to clean the folds from traces of old paint and dirt, and then treat with special putty from drying oil and chalk. Glass must be installed from the bottom edge of the fold. Fasten it with glazing beads that are fixed with nails. The beads should be pre-cut to the desired length and cut to each other at an angle of 45 °. Then, when they are installed in their place, they can be painted.
