Any silver blackens or dims over time and so sooner or later you will have to look for ways to clean it. One of the easiest and most affordable is cleaning silver with ammonia.

It should be remembered that if this is a silver product with precious stones, then ammonia must be used with caution (no more than 5 drops per glass of water). When cleaning a product with pearls, ammonia is not recommended to be used, since pearls can darken under the influence of ammonia.

Do not use coarse sponges when cleaning silver, so as not to scratch the surface of the products and to spoil small parts. For regular cleaning of silver (at least 1 time per week) a soapy solution (with the exception of the old "family" silver) will be quite enough. In the event that silver is heavily soiled and faded, it is better to contact a jewelry workshop.

First prepare a warm soapy solution. Immerse the silver in it, then take it out, rinse thoroughly and wipe it with a suede cloth. Prepare a solution from a mixture of ammonia and chalk. Apply this kashchetseobrazny mass on the surface of the product. Wait a while until this solution solidifies. Rinse the silver with plain water and wipe it dry with a cloth.

Take a container of such dimensions that any silver item can be placed in it. Prepare an aqueous solution of ammonia in a proportion of 1:10 (for example, 1 tablespoon of alcohol per 10 tablespoons of water). Immerse silver in the resulting ammonia solution for 15-30 minutes (depending on the degree of contamination of the surface of the product).

Use ammonia when cleaning silver tableware. Mix 5 parts of water with 2 parts of ammonia and 1 part of tooth powder (if you find it in modern stores). Wipe the dishes with a soft cloth soaked in this solution until you remove dirt from its surfaces. Silverware should not be dull or darkened. After cleaning, rinse the devices thoroughly in running water and wipe dry with a towel.

Never use ammonia when cleaning products made of gilded silver, as this will simply destroy the gilding on the surface of the product.
