Over time, any items become worthless, lose their elegant appearance, but buying new ones is not always possible. For example, upholstered furniture may still be strong, but at the same time the upholstery is all worn out and sagged. In this case, it is not necessary to immediately run to the store for new furniture, you can try to pull the old sofa.
You will need
- - foam rubber, synthetic winterizer, batting or felt;
- - spring blocks;
- - fabric for upholstery;
- - a furniture stapler or a hammer with nails.

First remove the old skin. Remove upholstery, foam or other soft layer. Inspect the frame and other wooden parts of the sofa, replace broken rails and boards. Fasten joints, tighten all screws, glue joints. Replace chipboard if necessary (old chipboards can emit harmful fumes).

Inspect the spring unit. If some springs are stretched, lost their shape, it is worth completely replacing the blocks, buy the necessary amount in the workshop, distribute it on the surface of the sofa and fix it with slats, or with stretched ribbons made of dense fabric. However, most often the springs themselves do not deteriorate, but the couplings between them, therefore, most likely, spring replacement will not be required. Tie them with a strong cord, but do not tighten too tight, it is enough to reduce the compression by one fifth.

Put a dense burlap or tarpaulin on top of the springs, then a layer of foam rubber, synthetic winterizer, batting or felt. Do not use old foam rubber, as it eventually falls apart into dust, which when inhaled is very harmful to health.

If the sofa is not spring-loaded, just cut the sintepon or foam rubber in size and stick it to the frame.

Using the old sofa covers, make patterns for new covers. Choose fabric for upholstery, it can be flock, velor, jacquard, tapestry, leather or nubuck. Cut out the details of the cover, cut them and sew them, overcasting the edges of the seams.

To change the upholstery of the sofa, pull the stitched covers over the back and armrests. Tighten not too tight, but also so that the fabric does not sag. It is important to achieve uniform tension. Fasten the fabric with staples using a construction stapler or nails at a distance of 2-3 cm.
