Instruction manual

1

Restoration of old chairs, however, like any other upholstered furniture, begins with the dismantling of seats, which account for a serious load during operation. The chair is turned over, all screws are unscrewed and the staples are removed, with which the upholstery is attached to the base. If any structural elements become unusable, they are repaired, the screws are tightened and they are ascertained of the possibility of further operation of the chair.

2

After that, the chair must be cleaned of old varnish and paint: with the help of coarse-grained emery paper, the wooden surface is thoroughly cleaned, periodically moistening it with water - this measure will help get rid of dust that occurs during the cleaning process. After drying, the furniture is treated with fine-grained emery paper, polishing all the bumps and roughnesses.

3

The prepared surface of the soft chair is covered with a primer layer: if further staining is planned, the soil may be white; when covering the chair with furniture varnish, it is better to choose a colorless primer, so that a beautiful wood texture is visible through a layer of varnish. After the soil layer has dried, the chair is painted in the desired color and left until the paint has completely dried. If necessary, in the future, one or two more coats of paint can be applied and after that cover the finished product with transparent furniture varnish.

4

To restore the chair seat, it is necessary to remove the old filler and replace it with a new one: a thick layer of foam rubber or furniture foam latex. The old chair seat is placed on the filler layer, outlined and carefully cut out. Using a furniture stapler, the filler is secured with braces around the perimeter of the seat. Fabric for a new chair upholstery is recommended to choose a dense, wear-resistant and non-marking. Furniture, curtains, tapestry fabrics or leather are best suited for these purposes. Cutting upholstery material is made according to the shape of the seat, taking into account 15 cm of allowances. If the fabric crumbles around the edges, it is necessary to tuck the edges of the material inward and sew on the sewing machine.

5

The upholstery is pulled tight on the seat, fixing it at the corners of the structure and trying to avoid the occurrence of folds and creases of material from the outside of the chair. You can fix the fabric on a wooden base with a furniture stapler or small studs. After that, I fix the restored seat on the chair with carpentry glue, screws or furniture nails.

6

To give the wooden surface a noble shine and additional smoothness, you can finalize the chair with beeswax based furniture balm. Wax has dust-repellent and antistatic properties, beautifully polishes furniture and gives the tree beautiful shades.
