Household and electronic appliances, furniture, kitchen utensils, children's toys and numerous small household items are currently made from plastic. Different types of plastics have common properties - they are not sensitive to moisture and very well tolerate the effects of strong acids and alkalis. But here sunlight and organic solvents have a different effect on them - it all depends on the specific composition of a polymer. Often under the action of ultraviolet light, the plastic turns yellow, and it is not always possible to bleach it.

You will need

  • -alcohol;

  • chlorine bleach;

  • -calcined soda;

  • -washing powder;

  • perhydrol;

  • -acetone.

Instruction manual

1

Sometimes a small coating of a yellowish tint is formed from settling on light objects of dust or soot, and if these particles themselves do not affect the plastic, then it is quite possible to remove them. Try to wash the plastic with a normal soap solution and a sponge or brush if the surface of the item is not afraid of scratches.

2

Try using alcohol - methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, etc. - which one you find. But just keep in mind that all chemical experiments should be carried out in a well-ventilated area, wearing gloves and, in some cases, safety glasses. And in order not to spoil the thing, it is better to try first by washing a small piece of plastic in an inconspicuous place.

3

In stores that sell computer equipment and supplies, there are ready-made wipes for cleaning plastic and monitors, impregnated with a special composition. You can clean and bleach plastic with them quickly and without damage.

4

Various companies offer plastic spray cleaners that can restore the original color of the surface, refresh it and cover it with a thin film for antistatic protection. In car dealerships, plastic cleaners and polishes are also sold - liquid-based plastic reconditioners, with which you can also try to process the right thing.

5

Soak the plastic parts overnight in one of the cleaning agents with chlorine, for example, chlorine bleach or hypochlorite.

6

Take a tablespoon of soda ash and washing powder, dilute with a liter of water and place the plastic for several hours in this solution.

7

You can try to whiten the yellowed plastic by applying a tool to lighten the hair, in particular, perhydrol with an oxidizing agent. Double processing of plastic with such a composition sometimes gives an excellent result.

8

Another use for perhydrol is in combination with powder bleach-stain remover. First, treat the plastic with a soapy solution, and then place in the indicated solution with perhydrol. The required amount of powders is achieved empirically - about two tablespoons per liter of water (if not enough - add), but it must be ensured that during the chemical reaction the perhydrol does not become very hot. To accelerate the reaction, it is advised to use an ultraviolet lamp.

9

Plastic can also be washed with acetone. But keep in mind that some types of this material dissolve in it. Take cotton wool and moisten it with acetone so that there are no smudges when processing the item. Wipe with quick movements horizontally, from top to bottom.

10

If you are not able to remove the yellowness due to changes in the structure of the plastic itself, you can try to update the thing by painting it with spray paint.
