No one doubts the truth of the common phrase that rabbits are not only valuable fur, but also excellent dietary meat that is easily digested. To get the same valuable fur, you need to make some efforts and observe a few rules when cutting the carcass of a rabbit.

You will need

  • - disc rule

  • - knives

  • - scrapers

  • - Cooper scissors,

  • - stick

  • - sawdust.

Instruction manual

1

The readiness of the rabbit for slaughter is determined by its skin: if the rump (the back of the animal) is clean, i.e. molting is completed, you can start slaughter. Before this, the rabbit should be on a hungry diet and without water for at least 12 hours.

2

On an industrial scale, rabbits are cut on conveyor lines - suspended by the hind legs, stunned with electric current, ears and front legs are cut with disk knives, and blood flows into a special gutter installed under the conveyor. Next, remove the skin, starting with the hind legs, and pulling her stocking with fur inward.

3

In homestead farms, the slaughter of rabbits is carried out manually: take the animal by its hind legs, lower it with its head down and with a right hand strike with a stick on the back of the head, but without breaking the skull.

4

To glass the blood, hang the carcass of a dead rabbit by its hind legs and remove the eye or cut the nasal septum. After 7-10 minutes, remove the carcass and rub your hand over your stomach to remove urine. Now proceed to remove the skin, having previously examined it for the presence of blood stains, which should be removed with a cotton swab dipped in warm water.

5

The skin should cool for 2-3 hours, then proceed with further processing. The removed skin must be degreased, putting on a special blank - the rule. Degreasing is the process of removing residual meat, tendons and fat. Use Cooper scissors (with rounded ends) to do this job. If there are no Cooper scissors, use a knife or scraper.

6

Put the fat-free skin on the rule with the fur inside, so that it dries evenly. Check if the skin is well spread on the blank - the width of the middle part of the skin should be 3 times less than the length. In general, the skin should freely fit the rule, with all paws located on one side.

7

Then wipe the skin from the side of the mezra (the side not covered with fur) with sawdust of deciduous trees to surely remove the remaining fat. To better store the skins, preserve them in a fresh-dry way: hang the rules with the skins stretched in a room with good ventilation and at a temperature of at least + 25-30 ° С.

note

Degrease only in the direction from the rump to the head, otherwise spoil the fur.

Useful advice

Remember, the quality of the skin depends on the accuracy of all the primary processing. Do not dry the skins in the sun - this will make the fur brittle.
