Ironing board is a convenient and very necessary thing even in an era when clothes are increasingly sewn from wrinkled fabrics. At the same time, there is no need to buy a new board if the old base is intact, but the upper part is torn or burnt. The board can be restored.
What is needed for this?
The board itself consists of a wooden base, batting, top surface and cover. Laying can also be made of felt, then covering it from above with a cloth is not necessary. To work, you also need cotton fabric, scissors, linen gum, wallpaper nails, a piece of soap or chalk in a contrasting color so that the trace is clearly visible. Felt pad can not be attached, batting - it is best to stick, so you will need more glue for fabric or universal.
Pattern
The method of manufacturing the pattern depends on what you will make the laying of. If this is felt, spread it on the floor, attach the part of the board that you will tighten, and circle. For laying from batting, a pattern is best done on paper first. For the restoration of the ironing board, only natural materials should be taken - artificial ones can melt during operation.
Top surface fabrication
Transfer the pattern to the fabric. In this case, the location of the lobar and transverse threads does not play a special role. Leave an allowance of approximately 8 cm on each side (board thickness plus another 3-4 cm per hem).
Assembly
After washing and heat treatment, the cotton fabric has a tendency to sit down, so it is better to wash it immediately before use. Material is tedious to choose one that does not fade. It is better to make a batting laying multilayer. Put the layers together, quilting the part (best with rhombic cells). Spread the top surface of the board with glue according to the instructions, apply a gasket and wait until the proc has dried. Cut the part intended for the upper surface from all sides, bent by 0.5 and 1 cm. Put it on the board, pull it and nail it from the bottom with wallpaper nails.
Case
Sew the blank intended for the cover at the edges, bending by 0.5 and 2 cm so that the elastic can be pulled in. Of course, you need to leave a hole of such a size that a pin passes into it. Mark the hole with a buttonhole. Put the usual linen elastic and put the cover on the board. The cover can also be made with ties, then the elastic is threaded and secured only in the semicircular part. Sashes can be placed diagonally - one in each corner. But this option requires more time, in addition, it is less convenient.
