Regardless of which wires you intend to connect, you will need to fulfill two basic conditions for electrical connection. This ensures maximum electrical conductivity of the compound and its mechanical strength.

Preparing wires for connection

At the beginning of the work, you must strip the connected ends of the wires. This operation is carried out using nippers or "side cutters" and a service knife. If the wire is two-wire, first separate the wires without damaging the insulation, and proceed to stripping. Remove the insulation at the ends of the wires so that 1.5 to 2 cm of bare wire is released. Strip the sections of wires that are free of insulation from oxides and protective varnish to shine with a knife. If the wires are stranded, after stripping the wires, they must be twisted into a tight bundle.

Solder connection

Soldering is the highest quality method of connecting wires, both in strength and in electrical conductivity. If you connect wires from copper or a copper alloy, then you can successfully apply soldering. Use a soldering iron to tin the stripped ends of the wires. Rosin and POS 40 solder are suitable for this purpose. Put on one of the soldered wires a piece of PVC pipe, so that in the future it isolates the soldering zone. Fold together the tinned ends of the wires and twist them firmly. Solder the twist. After the solder has cooled, isolate the solder by pulling a PVC tube over it, you can also use PVC-based electrical tape.

Terminal Block Connection

If you need to connect aluminum wires or a pair of wires of different metals, soldering becomes impossible. In this case, you can use the terminal block (terminal block). The terminal block is a base of insulating material on which the contacts are mounted. Contacts can be either spring or made in the form of screw terminals. Connection with a terminal block is simple. Insert the stripped ends of the wire into the terminals. If they are made in the form of screws, tightly clamp the wires with them.

Twist connection

In the case when it is impossible to apply soldering, and installation of the terminal block is not possible, twisting is carried out. This type of connection is used in low-current circuits, for example, when drawing telephone lines, when extending the field cable, sometimes with open wiring with an aluminum wire. Twisting can be used only for single-core wires and only in the absence of large mechanical loads on the connection. If you have to apply twisting, just twist the stripped ends of the wires together. Do not forget about isolation. Tinning and soldering are not performed.
