The ferret is a born hunter, guided by its wild instincts, therefore, along with rats and mice, poultry can become its victims. It is not as easy to ward off a ferret from a chicken coop as it seems, because this predator is incredibly cunning, agile and careful.

Farmers with experience say that if the ferret climbed into the chicken coop once, he would not calm down until he destroyed all the feathered, "cackling" livestock. Farmers are probably right, because for this predator, chickens are indeed extremely easy, and also very nutritious prey. And especially fear the attack of the ferret should be in the cold season - when there is not so much other prey for the animal.

However, there are still ways through which you can get rid of the annoying "killer", in addition, they are very humane. In the end, why shoot at such a beautiful animal, if you can give him a chance to leave sober-late?

Coop building, trap construction

In order to save the predator from the opportunity to get close to the "chicken tribe", care should be taken to strengthen the chicken coop. Given that the ferret can easily dig a tunnel even under the strongest wall (an animal doesn’t have to do anything to dig a depth of 20-30 centimeters), you need to take care of building an additional barrier.

Such a barrier can be, for example, another mesh wall (if the chicken coop is made from a net), the lower edge of which should be deepened into the ground by 50-60 centimeters and reliably cemented. The ferret can enter the chicken coop and through the ceiling, so this nuance must also be taken into account.

In order to catch the insidious predator, you can build a trap. This is quite simple to do - just take a bucket or a large box, put an emphasis under it, attaching a piece of meat to it. The ferret pulls the bait and the trap slams. At first glance, this method of capturing a predator is very simple and effective, but you have to deal with a very smart and agile beast, and in order to prevent it from escaping, you need to immediately respond. The trap should be taken far beyond the boundaries of the economy and the animal released into the wild.
