If you don’t have the opportunity to use dry cleaning services, then know that it’s not difficult to clean a cracked leather product at home. This type of skin is sensitive to organic solvents and water, so when cleaning, try to maintain the fat layer and color of the product, or apply glycerin at the end of the main work. There are several ways to clean products made from such leather.

Instruction manual

1

Dilute 80 grams of soap in one liter of warm water. Take a flannel rag and, after wetting it, wipe the product. As soon as minor impurities disappear, walk over the surface with dry paper.

2

Treat contaminated areas of the product with a clean flannel rag, slightly moistening it in beaten egg whites. After this treatment, the skin will become clean and will shine.

3

Use perchlorethylene thinner if your skin is heavily contaminated with engine or motor oil. This product has a powerful cleansing effect, so it can change the color and softness of the skin. To restore the product to its previous appearance, after cleaning, dry the product with a brush and then apply glycerin to it with a dry cloth.

4

To clean a heavily soiled dark leather jacket, treat it with carbon tetrachloride or a mixture of diethyl ether with turpentine (1: 1). For fair skin, use gasoline mixed with white magnesia powder. After drying, remove the remaining powder with a brush.

5

Remove ballpoint pens and ink stains with a mixture of alcohol (200 ml) acetic acid (15 ml) or alcohol (200 ml) magnesia (25 ml).

6

If the leather product was stored uncleaned for a long time, then remove the stains with the following solution: 200 ml of ethyl acetate, 50 ml of ammonia (25%), 250 ml of acetone, 1 liter of water. Wipe the product with it. After it dries (after about 12 hours), be sure to apply glycerin.

7

If stains cannot be removed with solvent, clean the surface of the product with a brush moistened with water and washing powder. Then apply white magnesia powder to the product, which absorbs all the liquid. After such cleaning, skin shrinkage can occur, therefore this method is used in extreme cases.

8

Iron the cleaned items with a non-hot iron through a thick layer of fabric so that they become softer and do not warp.

9

Periodically wipe the leather products with crack glycerin, especially those places that are quickly wiped and dirty.
