Before choosing a heater for the home, you need to understand the features of the oil and convection technology, to assess its advantages and disadvantages. Only in this case, the purchase will meet the principle of expediency.

Oil and convection heaters are electrical appliances designed for heating apartments and residential buildings, similar in purpose, but different in principle of operation.

Both devices can act as the main sources of heat in the cold season and in the off-season, or as additional ones when the efficiency of central heating is turned off or insufficient.

They are able to provide high efficiency of heating the air in the room, however, each of them is characterized by specific features, which must be taken into account when choosing climatic equipment.

What is the difference between an oil heater and a convector

Electric oil radiators are best suited to increase the temperature in small enclosed spaces (living rooms, kitchens, the area of ​​which is less than 25 square meters), excluding rooms with high humidity (bathrooms).

The principle of their operation is based on the emission of heat. The heating time after switching on is 20-30 minutes.

They are a sealed metal tank with a ribbed configuration, filled with an intermediate coolant - mineral oil, which is in direct contact with the heater.

When you turn on the equipment, the oil heats up, transmitting the temperature on the outer walls of the device. In turn, heat from the hot enclosure spreads throughout the room.

Oil radiators for apartments and houses are characterized by mobility; thanks to the presence of handles for carrying, and the floor versions also have wheels, they can be easily moved from place to place.

Advantages:

  • silent work;

  • affordable cost;

  • large selection of models;

  • high thermal inertia;

  • lack of corrosion on internal elements.

Disadvantages:

  • rather bulky, heavy;

  • high power consumption;

  • in the absence of a protective cover, there is a risk of burns in contact with the housing.

Electric convector heaters are optimal for heating rooms of any size. Differ in a flat form and small mass.

Mostly they are produced in the wall version, but there are also skirting models and floor models on casters.

Unlike oil coolers, they do not need time to warm up. After connecting to the network, the convector immediately enters into business, but it will take at least 30 minutes to fully warm up the room.

They function according to the principle of convection (circular motion) - when cold air masses pass through the lower openings of the unit, are heated inside the housing due to the heating element and exit through the upper grill (blinds) with a warm stream that is distributed throughout the room.

Radiation of heat, like in oil analogs, is also present, but minimal: it occurs only from the front panel.

Convection heaters for urban apartments and country houses meet all fire safety requirements, are characterized by simple control settings. They can be installed in bathrooms.

Benefits:

  • compactness;

  • long service life;

  • low heating of the outer surfaces of the case, which eliminates the risk of burns;

  • relative to oil units - economical energy consumption.

Minuses:

  • temperature differences in the upper and lower parts of the room are possible;

  • cold air is not pre-cleaned, but comes with dust;

  • After starting, a foreign odor may appear.
