During construction, 4 types of timber can be used. Non-planed needs additional processing, the one-piece is ideal in terms of price / quality ratio, and the other two types give the building increased moisture, bio and fire-resistant characteristics.

When constructing a house, one of four types of timber can be used: solid non-profiled, solid profiled, glued beam and LVL beam. Each of these types has its own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages, and all of them have the right to exist and use in the construction of a wooden house.

Unshaped and profiled types

Unshaped or un planed timber with a square or rectangular section is the most economical material used in construction. But such wood is not further processed by anything, so it needs to be finished. Otherwise, internal rot, flying knots, fungus, eating wood by insect pests, etc. cannot be avoided. Due to the lack of strict transverse dimensions and the unevenness between the crowns during installation, large gaps are obtained that require enhanced insulation. This type of timber shows low manufacturability, as a result of which it is not recommended for walls, and if it is still used for this purpose, it is necessary to further strengthen them. The same applies to the corners of the building.

The one-piece profiled beam has perfect geometric dimensions and an aesthetic appearance. This type of timber is better than the previous one, as it allows to achieve high precision joints. It reduces the likelihood of a ship, facilitates the installation process and does not require additional processing and finishing of the walls. It is more expensive than non-profiled, but it allows you to avoid most of the "surprises" presented by un planed wood.
