A hurricane is one of the most dangerous natural phenomena. It occurs all over the world and can easily do serious harm to an unprotected home. There are several precautions anyone can take to protect their home from this threat. Some of them need to be taken care of long before the start of the hurricane season, while other measures can be taken even after its completion.

Protect your home from falling branches and trees.
Carefully inspect all the trees surrounding the house. Trim all dried branches, or the whole tree.

Fix the windows and doors of the house.
Open windows and doors during a hurricane can lead to a significant increase in damage from natural disasters, and can also threaten the structure of the building. You can purchase specially designed hurricane blinds for windows and doors in your home, or make them yourself from a thick sheet of plywood. Remove the exact dimensions from each window and doorway by cutting out the required number of plywood panels. Use a black marker for dimensioning. Using a drill, install the panels at their destination. Remove the panels. Keep them in an easily accessible place so that you can install them in place as quickly as possible.

Garage protection.
If a garage door or a gate was installed by a specialized company, check out the passport which is available for them. The passport must include wind strength and pressure rating. If the door does not meet local requirements, replace it.

Remove all loose objects around your home.
This procedure must be carried out immediately after you hear about the storm warning. Take away the pool, flowerpots, ballot boxes, toys, etc.
