1

Wood drying

The natural moisture content of wood ranges from 35 to 80%. However, to obtain high-quality material, humidity should be reduced to 6-14% (depending on the purpose of the wood).

In accordance with GOST 19773-84, drying is carried out at high temperature in special chambers. As a result of this, not only the necessary humidity is achieved, which is necessary to prevent decay, but insects and microorganisms found in wood also die.

2

Wood preservation

This method consists in impregnating wood with an antiseptic (a substance that destroys microorganisms and insects).

Antiseptics are carried out using water-soluble, organosoluble, oily antiseptics and antiseptic pastes.

3

Sanitary Compliance

To protect wood from insects, it is necessary to comply with sanitary standards in a timber warehouse. If it was still not possible to prevent the attack of insects, then you should resort to chloroform treatment or the method discussed above - wood antiseptics.

4

Fire protection for wood

The simplest thing that can be done to protect wood from ignition is to separate the wooden part of the structure from heat sources. You can also cover the wood with plaster, asbestos board or asbestos-cement sheets.

Fire retardants used to treat wood in order to avoid fire include: ammonium chloride, borax, ammonium sulfate, sodium phosphate and ammonium.

Also, special fire retardant paints, varnishes and pastes are on sale. They are applied by brush or spraying.

Useful advice

Currently, a large number of tools for processing wood are produced. Among them there are also combined ones: protecting from moisture, fire, insects and possessing decorative properties.
