Even in very high-quality surge protectors, a fuse may burn out or jam. If the pilot throw away a pity, you can try to restore performance by putting a new fuse. It is only necessary to find accessories for replacement.

Why surge protectors fail

The two main reasons a fuse in a line filter may fail is overload and overvoltage. Surge protectors are designed to protect office equipment from various kinds of fluctuations in the electrical network, and therefore it is not worthwhile to include high power devices in them.

In a defective fuse, either a click is not heard when switching, or the button is completely motionless. This option is also possible: when the mains filter is plugged into the outlet, a short circuit occurs due to the triggered disposable varistor installed in parallel with the load contacts.

Repairing the surge protector is easy, it is much more difficult to find the right accessories. For expensive filters, they are sold separately, and in the case of cheap filters, you will have to look for another faulty network adapter and remove the fuse from it.

Fuse replacement

The pilot's body must be disassembled by unscrewing a few screws. They can be located in the grooves of the sockets or on the back of the filter, can be covered with factory stickers. Some cases have an additional fixation on plastic latches, so the filter must be opened with utmost care.

The fuse is installed on one of the supply wires, with the exception of yellow-green - this is the ground wire. The connection can be made by soldering or by means of a screw clamp. In the latter case, everything is simple: you should loosen the screws and remove the old fuse, then install a new one. If the contacts need to be soldered, then the heating time should not exceed one and a half seconds, otherwise the case may melt and jam the contact group. If there is nothing to replace the fuse with, then the two contacts can simply be connected with a piece of wire, but the mains filter will turn into a conventional extension cord.

Older surge protectors use disposable tube fuses with a glass housing. In this case, the blown fuse must simply be replaced with a new one with the same maximum current value.
