Potatoes belong to those vegetable crops that can be grown in various ways. The traditional method of growing potatoes is very time-consuming, so many land owners plant this vegetable in barrels, crates, and even in plastic bags. No less interesting is the technology of growing the "second bread" under a layer of straw or hay.

Now it sounds strange, but just a hundred years ago, peasants in Russia did not grow potatoes in the same way as it is now done. Apparently, in those days, land owners simply could not afford such a luxury - to spend a lot of time on how to delve into the garden for a long time. The then farmers used their technology - in the spring they scattered potatoes in the garden, covered it with a layer of straw, and at the end of summer they harvested.

What is the idea?

Contrary to popular belief, potato is a fairly unpretentious and tenacious plant, so it can grow and develop without human intervention.

The straw layer under which the vegetable is located throughout its growing season provides the necessary level of soil moisture and good air access, and also serves as an excellent mulch, protecting the plant from direct sunlight and the invasion of pest plants. By the way, straw is also a very practical material, because after two or three years it itself turns into an excellent fertilizer.
