If you decide to replace the old cast-iron bathtub with a more modern model, you will have to look for ways to get rid of this "bulky miracle" of Soviet plumbing. There are some tricks to solve this problem.

If you are doing renovation in your apartment and plan to expand the rooms, "move" the walls, including in the bathroom, then putting out a cast-iron bathtub will not be a problem. Moreover, if there are several physically strong men available and you live on the first or second floor. The situation is more complicated if it is not planned to break the walls, it does not pass through the doorway, there is not enough physical strength to lift this huge, and you live on the fifth floor. But do not despair, and in this case, there is always a way out.

Stock up on tools like grinder and sledgehammer. If further use of the bath is not planned, then it is easiest to break it down, and then, without particularly straining, take it out to pieces in a landfill.

Be sure to wear a respirator and goggles, as when cutting and breaking, the cast iron will crumble and fly off in different directions. To reduce these “side effects, ” cover the tub with a large piece of tarp and perform operations through the fabric.

Since the sound that your sledgehammer and grinder will make when breaking the bath is very sharp and loud, stock up on special protective headphones, warn home and neighbors in advance so that for them this noise does not become an unpleasant surprise. Close the doors tightly in the room in which you will cut the bath. Otherwise, the walls of the apartment will be covered with dust and hard-to-wash rust.

Before you begin to beat the sledgehammer in the bath, make several cuts on the sides of the grinder with a grinder. Discs for grinders are best taken abrasive, they cope with the task much better.

After you have made several incisions with a grinder (up to about half or a little more than the height of the bath), take a sledgehammer and carefully, but sharply and violently hit the sides several times. As a rule, they begin to crack, and you can easily take out your old bath in parts.

If this method does not suit you, contact the special services involved in the disposal of old bathtubs in your city. Perhaps they won’t even cut it, but, for example, if it doesn’t pass through the bathroom doorway and into other doors without problems (determined by measurements), they carefully remove the doors leading to the bathroom from the hinges and take out the cast-iron product.
