The most valuable property of wool, as we know, is to keep warm. But it is very important to take into account that not the fiber itself is heated due to some special chemical composition, but air, which is reliably trapped in the fabric by the countless rigid "springs" that build the wool fiber.
Therefore, the value of the fabric is measured not by its thickness, but by the purity of the fiber and lightness, the ability to hold as much air as possible with low weight. And the style of woolen fabric should emphasize just this dignity.
Therefore, we avoid hard, pressed forms. In order not to embrace the edge - it is important here to maintain the impression of bulkiness, airiness of the fabric - the most laborious and sophisticated edge treatment is often used - a fluff.
That is, an invisible line is sewn from the inside along the edge of the board with frequent hand stitches, fastening both fabrics and thus fixing the shape. The finishing line is located at a greater distance from the edge. Coat forms are most often free - because lightness is always associated with freedom. We cut the fabric less with constructive lines, don’t visually weight things up, don’t spoil valuable material in vain. All this applies to more expensive drapes. Coats from them are sewn for many years, so the styles are classic, with carefully calibrated, often rounded outlines of details.
Shaped fiction - all kinds of bold articulations, edgy details - we will leave for cheaper woolen fabrics with a small addition of pure-wool fiber. But here the rule remains: lighter drapes need free forms, and dense, heavy ones, like cloth, need a clear design and decorating details. The less the fabric speaks for itself, the louder the style decorating it should declare itself.
