How to increase fan speed

Any fan - a large industrial, household or computer cooler is driven by an electric motor shaft. You can increase the speed of its rotation by increasing the frequency of rotation of this shaft. This can be done by reducing the friction of the shaft against the bushings or by increasing the voltage on the motor windings.

You will need

  • - a tool for disassembling the fan;

  • - tester;

  • - frequency converter.

Instruction manual

1

Often during prolonged use, the speed of the fan and the air flow created by its blades begins to decrease. This is due to the fact that the engine shaft is clogged, and friction on it increases. In large industrial fans, the fan blades rotate on a shaft that is mounted on special bearings. To increase the rotation speed of such a fan, replace the bearings and lubricate them. In household fans and coolers, the shaft rotates simply on the mounts. Remove the fan, disassemble its casing and thoroughly clean the shaft. To reduce friction, you can use a special lubricant such as technical petroleum jelly, which reduces friction on the shaft.

2

If this does not give the desired increase in speed, you need to increase the frequency of rotation of the motor shaft. Examine the technical documentation for the fan and find the rated voltage at which it can operate. A decrease in rotation speed can be caused by the fact that the desired voltage is not supplied to the engine. Measure the voltage applied to the fan at the motor terminals with a tester. If it is below the nominal, increase it. To do this, strip the contacts on the terminals of the motor.

3

If the fan speed does not reach the rated value due to insufficient voltage in the network, then connect it through the AC voltage stabilizer. If a constant voltage is used to operate the fan, increase it using the regulator or replace the batteries. The voltage on the electric motor must not exceed the rated voltage, otherwise the motor will simply burn out.

4

Increase the frequency of rotation of the shaft of the fan motor operating with an asynchronous AC motor using a frequency converter. It joins the motor and changes the frequency of the current in the circuit. By increasing the frequency of the current supplied to the windings of such an engine, it is possible to increase its frequency of rotation, and hence the fan speed.
