To live in an apartment with comfort, you need to carefully monitor that all communications are operational. It is unlikely that anyone likes when the neighbors from below are in the middle of the night and shout in angry voices that they are being flooded. This can happen, for example, if the toilet suddenly leaked. Before taking any measures to eliminate the malfunction, it is necessary to find out the cause of its occurrence.

You will need

  • - nippers for metal;

  • - sealant;

  • - drain valve (possible).

Instruction manual

1

Check the filling hose. In case of violations in the work of the filling hose, a sharp drop in the pressure of water occurs, which is supplied to the tank. At the same time, the drain valve cannot completely close the opening of the tank, and water constantly runs in the toilet. To fix this damage, remove the tank cap and examine the filling hose that is connected to the inlet valve. Make sure that the filling hose is at the correct level with respect to the overflow pipe. Above its highest point, the position of the hose should not be higher than three centimeters. After checking the fixation and position of the filling valve, it is necessary to repeat the cycle of filling the tank and draining the water in order to evaluate the result.

2

Check float setting. Using a float, the level of water supplied to the tank is controlled. If the float is poorly adjusted, for example, is too low, there will be too little water for normal drainage. Too high a position of the float disrupts the intake valve. A mark is placed on the overflow pipe as a guideline for adjusting the float. With it, you can put the float in order. It is necessary to trace the entire process of filling the tank. If it is filled to a level that is above or below the mark, the level of the float will have to be adjusted - this can be done manually by fixing the float a little higher or lower than the set level.

3

Try adjusting the drain lever. Too short or entangled chain prevents the drain valve from closing completely - leakage will be constant. If the chain sags, the drain valve cannot open fully when the water is drained, and the pressure will be low. The position of the chain should be such that it sags, but slightly.

4

Change the drain valve. Most often, a toilet leak occurs because water continuously flows from the tank into the bowl. This is due to a malfunctioning drain valve. If you correct it, you can restore the normal functioning of the tank. But it is better to first make sure that other causes of the leak are excluded. If all of the above points are not the cause of the leak, it can only be a drain valve. Its walls during long-term operation can be deformed, which does not allow to keep accumulated water in the tank. As a result, there is a continuous flow of water, and it makes no sense to correct the valve - you can only replace it.

note

If a leak is detected on the floor under the toilet, it may not be immediately clear why it occurred. To eliminate the breakdown, it is necessary to determine its cause. Most of these malfunctions can be easily fixed with your own hands.

Useful advice

If the gaskets are loose, the toilet can also leak. Easy handling of all joints with sealant can help fix the problem.
