Putty walls - one of a set of procedures that are performed during the overhaul of the premises. In fact, putty is the leveling of the walls and their preparation for painting or wallpapering.
Puttying the walls is necessary in order to hide all their shortcomings - grooves, cracks and other defects. Usually, this work is done by professionals, but if there is a desire and minimal skills in handling a spatula, everyone can cope with this task.
We choose materials for putty
The traditional materials used to putty the walls are dry mixes on gypsum and cement basis. The gypsum-based mixture is more practical and versatile, since it is white and suitable for further work - wallpapering on any basis or painting walls.
The cement-based mixture has a grayish tint, so gluing light wallpaper on it or painting the wall with light paint is not recommended. Such material is more often used as a “lining” for decorative plaster or for artificial stone.
Usually putty is made in two stages. First, a coarse, "rough" putty is applied to the walls, and a layer of "finish" or "fair" putty is already applied on top of it. However, there is also a universal putty on sale, which is quite suitable for all stages of work.
