A corner cabinet is an excellent opportunity to use the free space to the maximum. In order to realize this idea, you can order a cabinet from craftsmen-furniture makers, but it’s much more interesting to do it yourself.

There are no difficulties in making a do-it-yourself corner cabinet. It can be a vertical pencil case for an entrance hall with an open corner for a hanger, or a small hinged mezzanine, in which a first-aid kit, improvised things and other little things will be placed.

What will be needed for work

To assemble and install a corner cabinet you will need simple tools. This is a set of screwdrivers, a screwdriver, a confirm key, an impact drill or hammer drill, as well as a special drill with a countersink. The work is best done on a flat floor, a tile flooring is excellent. During operation, a significant amount of wood chips and dust will appear, which will need to be constantly cleaned.

How to make a project and a list of parts

A large amount of software has been developed for furniture design. A suitable option would be the program "PRO100" - easy to learn and convenient CAD, designed specifically for the calculation of materials and accessories for cabinet furniture, as well as interior design.

The corner cabinet design can be easily sketched out manually. First you need to decide on the overall dimensions of the cabinet and draw its side walls. It is advisable to make them whole over the entire height, about 25-40 centimeters wide, depending on the type of door. At this stage, it is important to know whether the cabinet will occupy the entire space of the wall from the ceiling for the floor, or whether it will have a roof. In the first case, you can attach the vertical parts of the structure directly to the ceiling. Between the side walls at the top and bottom, you need to make horizontal jumpers that connect at right angles. This place is reinforced by two uprights. The width of the above elements should be equal to 100-150 millimeters. You can also make the rear walls of the cabinet deaf, but it will take more materials, so it’s better to sheathe the cabinet behind with MDF sheets.

If the cabinet has a roof, then it should cover it from above completely around the perimeter. The same goes for the bottom. Horizontal partitions should be performed in the same dimensions, subtracting from the sides the thickness of the chipboard sheet is 16 mm. In one of the corners of the cabinet, shelves for shoes can be made, which should have a depth of 30-35 centimeters. Loose edges can be strengthened by an additional vertical stand, having a width of 10-15 centimeters. The remaining free space is best divided into three parts: the upper, lower mezzanines and a compartment for outerwear. In the latter, you can install either a strap for trempels, or hooks on the side walls. In both cases, you will have to add a few horizontal jumpers.

As for the doors, they can be made oar, or sliding, by installing horizontal guides on the floor and roof of the cabinet. After that, you need to make a list of parts, indicate their linear dimensions and mark those ends that will be glued with a decorative edge. On the hinged doors, it is necessary to mark the places for installing hinges.

Production of parts and purchase of accessories

It is possible to buy parts for a cabinet at a special factory: there the sheet of chipboard will be cut to the required size, glued over the edge and milled out the grooves for the door hinges. It is better to choose accessories from Turkey or Germany. You will need door hinges and handles, closers, confirmations and dowels, legs, hooks and a horizontal bar for trempels. You can use plastic or adhesive caps to decorate confirmation hats.
