One of the best solutions in the arrangement of a work or kitchen table is the installation of sockets in the countertop. They provide convenience when using electrical appliances and household appliances, fit well into the interior.
Many housewives appreciated the ability to quickly connect small household appliances in the most convenient place - right on the working surface of the kitchen set. Sockets built into the countertop are used everywhere: in work shops, offices, art studios. You can implement such a convenient innovation with your own hands, there are several ways to do this.
Embedding standard wall outlets
With a tabletop thickness of more than 40 millimeters, ordinary recessed wall sockets can be mounted in it. A wide range of electrical products allows you to choose furniture fittings, designed in almost any style. This option of built-in sockets is distinguished by its availability and relatively convenient to use. When buying outlets, you should also purchase for them a common frame for the desired number of positions.
In the selected place, you need to make markings: draw a line parallel to the edge of the table and make marks on it every 7 centimeters according to the number of outlets. Marked crosshairs will be the centers of the holes. With a drill forstner, a hollow crown or a sliding ballerina, you need to drill niches according to the diameter of the installation boxes. It is better to use podrozetniki for hollow walls, which are fixed paws. After installation, the boxes should be additionally secured by screwing into each two screws, directing them to the end of the countertop. When the sockets are installed, it is necessary to make and lay in them cable jumpers that connect the socket group in series. To the extreme outlet you need to connect a cord of the required length with a plug. After all electrical connections are completed, the sockets must be put in place, pressing them as tightly as possible to the surface of the table. If there is a gap, you can cut off the outer rim of the installation box. Sockets built in this way should not be placed close to the sink, as they are not protected against flooding.
Vertical Outlet
The most interesting is the design of a hidden vertical column with several outlets. When closed, it looks like a washer on the table surface, after clicking on which the mechanism smoothly raises the column. Such sockets are easy to install: in the countertop it is enough to make a hole of the required diameter, insert the column on top and tighten it from below with a plastic lock nut. A wire with a plug is included in the device’s kit, it remains only to plug it into a power outlet. The only drawback of this design is the impossibility of installing it in the place where the drawers are located under the countertop.
